In Donald Trump’s felony trial last week, we heard about Hulk Hogan’s sex tape, and we watched Hope Hicks cry. So far this week, we heard all about ledgers, invoices and accounts payable stamps. We watched as a loyal Trump accountant authenticated Allen Weisselberg’s handwriting. The same documents with different dates popped up not once or twice but over and over again. The documents were validated today by a former senior vice president of the Trump Organization, Jeffrey McConney, and an accounts payable supervisor, Deborah Tarasoff, both of whose legal fees are being paid by the company.

"A strong work ethic" is the top skill companies are looking for in new hires, but is one of the hardest to find, according to new research from ADP. As part of its research, ADP surveyed more than 1,500 business owners, senior leaders and hiring managers about their hiring plans and priorities in 2024. Even as conversations about the importance of technical upskilling reach a fever pitch, soft skills emerged as the clear winner. "A strong work ethic" is a nebulous term. As artificial intelligence integrates more into the workforce, soft skills, or people skills, are invaluable assets to professionals, the report notes.

Robusta coffee futures hit a 16-year high because of a prolonged drought in Vietnam. The robusta coffee variety is the basis for both espresso and instant coffee. A long, El Niño-induced drought in Vietnam pushed up the price of robusta futures on Wednesday to the highest in at least 16 years, Bloomberg reported. This year's drought in Vietnam could continue the low-supply cycle, hurting next year's production. Vietnam is increasingly importing cheaper robusta from Brazil to satisfy soaring local demand from coffee drinkers, Bloomberg reported in March.

Citi says a record-breaking rally for cocoa and coffee prices could yet have further room to run, citing adverse weather conditions and demand expectations. In New York, benchmark ICE cocoa futures traded 1.6% lower at $9,370 per metric ton on Thursday. Citi expects cocoa trading to stabilize in a range between $9,000 to $10,000 per metric ton over the next three to four weeks. Citi said cocoa grindings, which result from bean processing and are a measure of demand, will be one key factor likely to determine whether prices have any further upside. Overall, Citi says it remains "mildly bearish" on cocoa prices through to year-end and more so in the 2025 calendar year.
